School Reopening Model 2020-21

DOE Approved Reopening Model

Dearest P.S..I.S. 218 Families, It is always an honor to communicate with you during these summer days!

I trust that you and your loved ones are well doing superb, are joyful, and are healthy----and  that you are relaxing and taking advantage of what the Summer offers—given our limitation due to social distancing.

Families, as we discussed on previously, the Department of Education is working on a plan to re-open schools in the Fall.  We do not have a set date when schools will be open.  For the time being, we are being asked to plan for a Blended Model (In-person & Remote learning) for all students.

Below, you will find the Model that will work for our K-8 (Elementary & Middle School) Model.  Simply stated,  due to the fact that we have 1,041 students, only the model that has 3 cohorts will work (3 Groups, 10 Students each + 1 or 2 adults) each day.  Our School Building can handle up to 490 adults per day (a little less than half) + D75 Students and staff (circa 27).   We are working diligently to a content-modified schedule that will sustain social distancing, content requirements, and in-person day-to-day functioning (such as breakfast, lunch, e.g., ). When we get more guidance, I will share them  with you here.

Again, I want to thank you immensely for taking the time to read this email.

Summary:

Three in-person cohorts, one remote.

• Provides regularity on days per week with some variation by week (e.g. Group A is in-person every Wednesday, as well as on Monday in week 1 and Tuesday in week 3).

• Because this model provides the greatest degree of regularity among the three-cohort models, it is the only option available for elementary schools and is "Chancellor Recommended" for middle schools that must program for 1/3 of their students.

Group A, Group B, Group C: in-person learning 1-3 days per week (5 days every 3 weeks); remote learning for non-in person days.

Group D: remote every day; consists of students who opt out of in-person instruction.
