Curricula

P.S./I.S. 218 is fully dual language school. Students receive instruction in English and Spanish to learn all the content. We have three different Dual Language Models: 50:50 Side-by-Side, Self-Contained Dual Language, and 60:40.

Curricula Details by Grade and Class

• In grades K-2, all students receive instruction on a 50:50 Side-by-Side Model and one Self-Contained Dual Language Model in each grade. Students on an alternating day basis take one day of instruction in English and the other day completely in Spanish.


• 3rd grade has one cohort who will have the 50:50 Side-by-Side Model: class 320 & 321. These two classes will receive instruction in English and Spanish on alternating days.


• Classes 322 & 324 and Grades 4th & 5th, will follow the 60:40 Dual Language Model which is as follows: Literacy will be taught all in English; Math will have 3 periods in English and 2 in Spanish; Science and Social Studies will be taught in Spanish. 


• Grades 6-8 will follow the 60:40 Dual Language Model which is as follows: Literacy will be taught all in English; Math will have 3 periods in English and 2 in Spanish; Science will have 2 periods of English and 1 in Spanish; and 6th grade Social Studies will be taught all in Spanish; 7th grade 2 periods in English and 1 in Spanish.  College & Careers is taught in Spanish and Art in both languages. 


• Grades 3-5 are departmentalized.  Students will have two (2) teachers: Math/Science and ELA/Social Studies.
• This academic year the school will be using the following Common Core aligned curricula:
