Parent Coordinator Zeneth Becerra

Dear P.S./. I.S. 218 Families:

Parent CoordinatorMy name is Zeneth Becerra and I am here to work alongside you.  I love what I do and look forward to continuing my work with the families at P.S./I.S. 218. Together, we can support our children’s needs.

One of the most exciting responsibilities assigned to me is to create a welcoming environment for all families.  I believe that supporting a welcoming environment will lead to more positive parental engagement which lead to a higher academic achievement of our students. For example, I will work diligently to support these five areas:

  1. Fostering Communication: School and families engage in an open exchange of information regarding student progress, school-wide goals and support activities.
  2. Encouraging Parent Involvement: Parents have diverse and meaningful roles in the school community and their children’s achievements.
  3. Creating Welcoming Schools: Creating a welcoming, positive school climate with the commitment of the entire school community.
  4. Partnering for Students Success: Schools engage families in setting high expectations for students and actively partner with parents to prepare students for their next level.
  5. Collaborating Effectively: School community works together to make decisions about the academic and personal growth of students through school-wide goals. School fosters collaboration with community-based organization to create a vibrant, fulfilling environment for students and families.

Our school already has systems in place to continue improving these areas.  At P.S./I.S. 218, we believe that family engagement, supporting families, encouraging academic success, partnering with the community and other agencies, and working collaboratively and effectively with all our families is essential.

Working with the Parent Association is also an essential part of my duties which I do with much love. The Parent Association is an incredible organization for they so generously donate their time, talent, expertise, and money to help other families and therefore making this school a very special place.  I will continue working with the Parent Association to help them in their efforts to meet their goals in fund-raising and accomplish their collaborative efforts of support to P.S./I.S. 218 for a successful school year.

If you need information, make an appointment, or have an issue to be addressed, please call me at 718-410-7230, ext 1011. Walk-ins are welcome. My office is located on the first floor, Room #101. You may send an email to ZBecerra@schools.nyc.gov.   Written messages can be left in the main office where I have a mailbox.

On behalf of P.S./I.S. 218, we wish you a successful and happy school year.

Zeneth Becerra, Parent Coordinator
